3km Time Trial

Equipment Options

  • Marking tape and/or cones
  • Stop watch (most smart phones have a stop-watch feature)
  • Recording sheets
  • Assistant/training partner (recommended)
  • An athletic track (400m) or oval would be the best way of calculating the distance and fixing the variables before commencing this test procedure
  • Treadmill

TIP: If using an athletic track – the athlete will need to complete 7.5 laps (x400m) this equates to 3km.

To begin this test procedure the Rookie Me athlete must have their foot behind the start line (or area where they choose to begin this trial). As soon as they launch themselves past the starting mark – the time trial begins. The athlete is required to run the whole 3km until they reach the finish line, in the fastest possible time. This is when the trial is officially complete.

Rookie Me Enter Score

The Rookie Me enter score will be the time that it took for the athlete to complete the 3km time trial in one single attempt.

This is an indication of their aerobic fitness and is to be recorded into the Athlete Profile in minutes and seconds, to the nearest 0.01 second.
